Evergreen Pond Hockey Update March 7, 2010

Its been a great season at Evergreen Lake with some epic battles on the ice! And while the season isn’t officially over yet; the last few days have been very warm– it’s approaching 50 degrees as I write this update at 8:43 AM on March 7, 2010. While the ice remains very thick it gets very slushy and chopped up quickly. If you want to play spring pond hockey in Evergreen get here early while the ice is still hard. There are probably only a few more weekends of skating! Maybe it’s time to start thinking about Lacrosse!

Ice Skating On Evergreen Lake

January 18, 2010 Ice skating continues to be great with solid ice and lots of skaters.  The warm temperatures have made the late afternoon skating pretty sloppy so get top the lake early for the best pond hockey and overall ice conditions.  The pond hockey on Evergreen lake has been very competitive with all levels of players showing up– including a few ringers.  But they’re all pretty good spirited and put up with the average skaters like me.  I expect the ice to improve over the next few days as the sun might go behind some clouds for a bit!  Hate to complain about the perfect and warm weather we’ve been having but a good snow storm would be nice!

Pond Hockey on Evergreen Lake!

December 21, 2009 pond hockey on Evergreen lake is fantastic!  Although it has been so warm in the last few days that I recommend getting to the pond as early as possible.  The last few days the ice has been very rough in the afternoon as the ice is freezing and thawing.  The Evergreen Lake hockey hotline number is now: 720.880.1391.

I have to say that I have been impressed with the level of play lately.  As a more or less “average” hockey player I’ve been pleased with the sportsmanship and overall friendliness of the games.  Hockey players of all ages are being conscious of keeping sticks down and avoiding slap shots.

The most competitive hockey is typically early in the morning with a core group of skaters that meet at 8 AM.

The lake house offers skate rentals and warm drinks as well as a nice setting to kick back and relax and take a break from skating.

Evergreen Lake is a great place to bring brand new hockey players since there are several rinks where players can test their skills among different levels of players.

December 12, 2009 the rinks are alive with hockey skaters, figure skaters and all levels and ages of bladed athletes enjoying Evergreen Lake!

Evergreen Pond Hockey VideoAs of December 9 the ice is very thick on Evergreen Lake. Temperatures throughout Evergreen have been well below freezing for many days in a row. The Pond Hockey rinks are almost ready for action and I’ve seen the zamboni cutting and flooding the rinks but there is no hockey in Evergreen lake yet. Maybe in a day or two if temps continue to be this frigid. I heard a rumor that the ice has to be twelve inches thick before the hockey rinks will be open. Please call the hotline at 303.512.9300 for the latest Pond Hockey on Evergreen Lake news.

As of November 30, 2009 Evergreen Lake is frozen over but not ready for hockey, ice skating or ice fishing.  I saw that someone had been skating on the ice today but I wouldn’t recommend it!  There is still a great deal of open water and the ice is very soft.  Most days we’ve had in the past week or two have been above freezing all day.  Pond hockey probably won’t start for a few more weeks.

But as I drove by today it was 33 degrees Fahrenheit with some losses in ice coverage and depth. The ice is definitely not safe today for any hockey. I’ll update again after a few days of below freezing temperatures.

No more pond hockey on Evergreen Lake…(April 5, 2009)

The ice is gone and even with the BIG snow we picked up this weekend there will be no more skating until the holiday season next year! However, sledding in Evergreen is going strong at Cub Creek Park. And Conifer sledding at Meyer’s Ranch is terrific.

Evergreen Lake Ice Skating is open, but please call the hotline at 303.512.9300 first before coming to the lake.

There are regular pick-up hockey games on a few sheets and open skating others!

To me, nothing is more seasonal than pond hockey on Evergreen Lake. Skating around in one of the most beautiful places on earth in the crisp pond_hockeywinter air under deep blue skies is ideally Colorado!

The pond is frozen and I’ve seen both skaters and zambonis on the ice but as of 5:41 PM December 26 the lake is not officially open for skating. Stay tuned though and I’ll update you on this years opening!

Pond Hockey at Evergreen Lake is managed by the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District
